Ward Green 6

After the poor light at the local parkrun, it was a far brighter day on Sunday. With no turkey to pick up from M&S this year, I was able to stay to the very end of the race … nearly.

Had a couple of hours out walking Willow and even had time to consume a bit of breakfast before setting off. A repeat performance of last year's snapping points looked the best bet. The images from the start don't work out usually, one or two of the leaders are fine but the compositions deteriorate after that.

Someone feeling happy

Had a look at a slightly different spot on the first hill and I wish I'd chosen this one out of the two I tried.

The initial image would have been quite effective with them appearing above the rise. Ah well, there's always next year.

Might have made a great shot of Scott and the leaders coming over the hill.

The last few through with the sweepers and it was time to nip back to the club and go for yet another wee. God, getting old isn't much fun toilet wise. How on earth does Willow manage to hold herself from 8 in the evening until 7 in the morning? If only I could do the same..

Scott would be on lap 2 in around 15 minutes time. I chose the same place by the side of the road. The bend adds to the composition but you do have to be aware of traffic that will be show up in quite a few of the shots.

I do spend quite a bit of time looking at each image. Deciding whether it's better as a square crop or a more landscape style that makes it a keeper, is quite rewarding.

Can't think of many images that have gone straight from the camera and into an album.

Kept an eye on the clock and at the given time, moved down to the club.

Asked Dave B if it was okay to squat next to one of his bollards and with permission given, awaited the arrival of Scott.

Managed a few shots of people passing by at the top of the drive.

A few minutes later and Scott was about to complete the six miles in a tad over 30 minutes. I can't remember the last time I did this race. Probably 1990 something or other and certainly not as fast as Scott ran it.

One by one, the runners returned to the club and I just about managed to capture everyone. The odd finisher obscured by onlookers and those who had already completed the course. A polite, "SHIFT!" was called for. Apologies if I didn't manage to capture you at all. My Nikon coped far better at the WG6 than it did at the parkrun. Not one shot blurred, the poor light on Saturday had led to it hunting for something to focus on.

Time moved on and it seemed that Scott had been back for hours. Shaun C kindly bought me a cuppa to keep me going and Tim W produced a couple of beers which will go down very nicely. Thanks to Bridget for her card and another donation, star lady!

Loupedeck+

So, how am I getting on with the Loupdeck system that was kindly given to me by Andrew Coomber?

Cutting down the time it takes to edit photographs is really important. There is no way I want to allow the quality, in my opinion, to suffer. I could post them straight out of the camera but they wouldn't be of a standard that I feel is acceptable.

Best thing about Loupedeck so far:

The ability to rate images at top speed. Using the control dial and a designated button, I can go through all the images and pick out the ones I feel are good enough … FAST.

It has really helped to save me a lot of time.

I am able to edit photographs in Full Screen Mode, another operation which is extremely useful.

Bit by bit I'm adding different "operations" to my editing, looking to save a great deal of time and effort.

Future races: Ambles Revenge - possibly The Trigger (same day as an Antiques thingy) - Tigger Tor - Mickleden Straddle

Thanks to everyone who has donated to my "gear" pool. I already have enough to buy an external hard drive. Brilliant.
