Bridge Over the TPT

With my attendance at the Antiques Fair at Elsecar set in stone, snapping at The Trigger was a non-starter. In hindsight, any images I might have captured at Crowden Little Brook, wouldn't have added up to much anyway. The light was poor and the rain … heavy. Ah well, next year maybe.

So, to keep my eye in so to speak, I thought I'd snap parkrunners from the bridge overlooking the TPT. It takes up less of my time, allowing me to walk Willow either side of the shoot. Such fun!

Parked up on Leapings Lane and hung over the bridge to take a couple of test shots. A few of the drivers who went by me, might have thought that I was about to practise my jumping skills. I smiled at them and said that I was fine, no way was I about to leap.

8:55 and around ten minutes or so before the first runner would appear.

The light was poor, yet again. This meant that I'd have to use a wide open aperture and that the ISO would be high.

Chose the 85mm f1.8 lens, rather than the 50mm, to allow me to get in closer. Less cropping but harder to capture the runners within the frame. I set the aperture to f2.8, shutter speed of 1/640th sec and this gave me an ISO of between 5 and 6 thousand. GRAINY!

Thankfully, there weren't too many runners this morning. This meant that I could capture quite a few in isolation. As the "slower" runners came through in larger groups, I turned my attention to the leaders who were making their way back. With the knowledge that I'd be stationed at the bridge, quite a few people made the effort to wave and shout thanks as they ran beneath me.

Hopefully managed to capture everyone in some form or another. Hitting the high number of frames per second, I managed to put together a sequence of shots that show a runner's style. Fascinating to look at body shapes as they pass beneath me.

Upper body movement, use of the arms and head position.

Foot plant, are they running on the outside or inside of the foot.

With such a shallow depth of field using an aperture of f2.8, it meant that two or more runners within the frame, might not be in sharp focus. Hopefully the light will be a little kinder as Spring comes along.

Spent quite a lot of time working through these images and enjoyed the process. Not sure how many of the photographs actually reach a reasonable audience. Might be better off just selecting a dozen or so and concentrating on them.

Looking at printing out a montage; a collection of square photographs from the last few races. It will be on the LARGE side, possibly A2.

Can't see me being able to afford framing it, plus the fact that I don't have the wall space.

Thanks to the small band of followers who continue to encourage me in my chosen "hobby". I really do appreciate the time and trouble you take to like and comment on my work.

Tigger Tor, Mickleden Straddle and the Wombwell 5 coming along in the next few weeks. See you soon.
